What ADHD Could Feel Like

Your brain is constantly buzzing, making it difficult to focus or relax for any length of time. You start the day determined to succeed, but by mid-afternoon, you feel drained of energy. Routines always start strong but end quickly.

You’re an expert at taking care of everyone else, but can’t seem to find the space to take care of yourself. With everything piling up—tasks, deadlines, expectations—it feels like you’re running just to keep up, and no matter how hard you try, you can’t shake the weight of it all!

You wish you could do more and always want to improve yourself. You worry, “What if I forget something important?! What if I fail?!?!” The pressure to “figure it all out” only heightens your anxiety, and trying to manage it leaves you falling even further behind. Distractions help, but only for a little while.

Sometimes you get the sense that people think you are too loud or too intense.  You want people to understand you, but it’s like you’re speaking a different language and it leaves you feeling more isolated. You wish they could understand the constant struggle of trying to balance everything while trying to figure out where you fit in.

Therapy can be a powerful tool in helping you navigate these challenges. It provides a space where you can untangle the overwhelm, develop strategies to manage your emotions, and learn ways to work with your brain instead of against it. You can build systems that actually stick, manage anxiety in a way that feels sustainable, and challenge the self-doubt that keeps you feeling stuck. You don’t have to figure it all out alone.

It is possible to harness your strengths and build a fulfilling life on your terms!

Common ADHD Traits and Experiences

Your brain may work best with external supports for planning, organizing, and completing tasks. I support individuals in creating systems to help with:

  • Inconsistent attention–hyperfocusing interests and struggling to do things that are unengaging

  • Difficulty starting or finishing tasks

  • Forgetfulness

  • Restlessness and need for movement

  • Impulsivity

  • Difficulty estimating time and meeting deadlines

  • Sleep challenges–difficulty falling asleep, staying sleep, or maintaining a consistent sleep schedule

I also help individuals build self-awareness and navigate life in a neurotypical world. You might resonate with these common experiences:

  • Intense emotional reactions to perceived rejection

  • Feeling different in social groups and masking to fit in

  • School or workplace challenges, especially struggling with traditional structures and expectations

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Growing up with emotionally unavailable caregivers–lacking the support needed to thrive
